NT Fashion Stakes on the Rise
The Top End is renowned for its laid back, relaxed way of life but when it comes to fashion and racing fashion in particular, the stakes are high, the competition is fierce and the standard is striking.
Two thousand and fifteen will mark the introduction of the brand new ‘Casuarina Square Carnival Fashions on the Field’ competition which will bring fashion to the forefront on each of the eight Carnival race days for the first time.
The ultimate victor will win the opportunity to represent the Territory in the Melbourne Cup Carnival, earning automatic qualification into the preliminary finals of the Melbourne Cup Day Myer Fashions on the Field competition at Flemington as well as a VIP experience including hospitality, flights and accommodation.
“The Darwin Turf Club is extremely excited to be working together with Casuarina Square and the Victorian Racing Club to ensure Top End racing fashion receives the recognition it so deserves,” said Darwin Turf Club Marketing & Sponsorship Manager Carly Archer.
“Darwin ladies have claimed victories during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival fashion contests for the last two years straight and now, with our brand new Casuarina Square Carnival Fashions on the Field competition, the opportunities to showcase our distinctive Top End style will only increase,” she said.
“The inaugural competition winner will make history as the first Northern Territory representative to earn automatic entry into the Top 40 of the Myer Fashions on the Field on Melbourne Cup Day. Combined with the amazing travel and hospitality package it’s an opportunity of a lifetime.”
Previously, official Fashions on the Field contests were held only on Ladies Day and Darwin Cup Day, the new process brings the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival fashion programme in line with other major racing events across the country and provides the perfect platform for local retailers and designers to showcase just what the region has to offer.
