Meet the FOCs, (Faces of Caulfield), I know, it is tongue in cheek, but are we all not taking ourselves a little too seriously. Ie: Meet the Fockers, movie, long time ago, before your time.
When looking at who is going to be presented as the FOCs for every year, remember you are to be styled, told what to do, how to say it, when to say it, where your hair this way. To some it may sound enticing to be presented as the Faces of Caulfield and it is great proving ground to have your face put to the media, but you do not have allot of room for diversity or to have your personal say. You will be groomed for media development.
As I look at the contestants, some stood out as having brilliant racing fashion grooming and interpretation of racing fashion style, yet others did not seem to have the general rules down.
So many in this position think this is just a matter of being a pretty face. Yes, you have to have a good face for photography, but you are being judged on how marketable your look is to sell products of sponsors over the next 12 months.
The main point of the exercise is that the ladies and gentlemen selected for the position are great canvasses and I can see that styling will take them far as it has done with many previous Faces of Caulfield. Faces of Caulfield are the 12 month contract of a representative of Caulfield Racing Fashion, that is distinctive to Caulfield Racing Style.
This year, Spring Racing Fashion is going to be more haute although Caulfield does call for the less costume like fashions. Caulfield is a favourite course for corporate business days and this is a fantastic group sharing event for corporate days.
The High fashion of Caulfield is always the designer award where we look for quality of fabric, how it hangs and the all over design.
Racing Fashion is rapidly changing, and we cannot wait to see the designers of 'The Design Award', 'Classic Caulfield Style Award'.
I congratulate all the winners and competitors of 'Face of Caulfield', I feel the ladies with strong views on Racing Fashion should stick to their strengths as their style is already fabulous and Racing Fashion is noticing you are ahead of the pack. If you were to be styled I could see that your interpretation and the stylists my stand in the way of each others views.
Stay strong in your views as that what makes you an individual.
The finalists of 'Face of Caulfield' are great competitors and will go on to have a brilliant carnival as well as grooming and lessons with a fantastic mentor like Jesinta Campell. I cannot wait for the 10th when the winners are announced.
Remember it is more important to be a gracious competitor and win, lose or draw, you are learning.
