Racing Fashion is always excited when there is a hint of Spring in the air and it starts with Kangan Millinery Soiree. This is a celebration of everything hats and at glimpse into the adventure of the life of a Milliner. Over the past 5 years or so I have had the pleasure of an invitation to be a guest at this event and also an opportunity to share my love of hats.
The students are overwhelmingly talented and I love seeing the transformation each year from level to level, eg: Certificate Levels.
I was totally blown away by the Certificate IV, where last year they had the huge loss of their mentor Paris Kyne. It seemed only fitting that the parade was named “Paris”.
In saying that a mentor was lost, I see that the Milliners have had an opportunity to grow from the experience and showing talent that is beyond what I have seen of some established Milliner names. I am very excited to see these young hatters be inspired to overcome difficulty and produce a line that is outstanding in every manner.
Many times when I do speak to some Milliners, they do feel that work may be similar or inspired. Well we all draw inspiration from somewhere and even when there is inspiration I can see a totally different aesthetic to the piece from another.
I was so happy to see the faces of students and the pride of their work. We are blessed in Melbourne where Kangan is the only Tertiary Education that you can aquire Certificate IV.
I thank Kangan the mentors, Serena and Rose to Certificate IV, and all for putting on such a fabulous show. Thank you Patrick for your stunning photography, it gave me time to relax and enjoy.
