Blue Diamond Fashions on the Field yesterday left us all with thoughts of 'What is Relaxed Racing and what to wear?', Luckily when talking to Fiona Twist from Melbourne Racing Club the lines of Relaxed Fashion and Fashions on the Field are two entirely different things.
I made it quite clear I was not a fan of the play suit or lack of Millinery as so many ladies have pleasure from mundane day to day duties where they can loose themselves on the weekend to be the picture they imagine in a magazine. I love watching Fashions on the Field and the competitors. There is always something new and different.
Fashions on the Field still had its high quality contestants and some serial competitors grinding at the bit, looking one another up and down to see who shall be deemed most fashionable on the day. Mildred Elwood said it frankly on stage that when she is competing it is 'Game On'. Others may play the game too seriously. Personally I found the day more clicky than other meetings, but my eyes will stay open on making sure new faces enjoying the day remain enjoying and giving support and caring to those who would like it.
In saying this I had the opportunity to sit and spend time with lovely ladies, talk about hats and fashion and catch up with wonderful people where fashion and the love for hats and dressing up brought us together as friends in the beginning.
I was so happy when Brodie Worrel was announced the winner on the day and no one could take that from her. She looked amazing, was immaculately groomed and loved every minute with her fabulous Chanel Lego Clutch. Just as happy to see runner up Mildred Elwood who transformed a scarf of bees into a fun gorgeous skirt.
For people who want to win and get ahead all of the time, I think it is time you had a long hard look at yourselves and think, who am I competing with. It may just be your own ego, let it go and dress is something fun and fabulous. I must admit I did see a fun and happy hippie inspired outfit from a competitor with a wonderful attitude. There were only a few with the eye on the prize, and I believe Brodie was the deserved winner.
I think the judges made wonderful decisions and I was mindful they were sitting there all day and Jess Dempsey heavily pregnant. We wish her and her bundle of fabulous all the best.
Thank you to all competitors for showcasing their Fashions on the Field ensembles and I am so glad to be a part in any capacity of 'Racing Fashion'. An honour to be able to bring these images to you. x
