It is no secret that Adelaide is one of my favourite destinations in Australia. Not only for the wonderfully friendly people but the fact that I loved living there for over 5 years and I was welcomed back to the state by so many wonderful people. Some I already knew and others I was happy to meet. I was offered to attend the day by the wonderful Jane at 'Fashion at the Races' and of course was welcomed by the South Australian Jockey Club and all associated. I think it is the friendly feel of team and family that this state is so special and in my eyes one of Racings best kept secrets. You may not have the weekly group one's or big stake races all the time, but for what this track lacks in Celebrity and big name horses, it has something you cannot buy and that is class.

When first being invited, my mind recalled from last year bitter rivals from Melbourne Fashion on the Field competitors, the previous year I had been sent images to display on my site of what looked like one girl being flattened off her feet by another competitor. When I saw this disturbing photo, I did approach one of the people in the photo to ask what had happened? I was assured it was not as bad as it looked, and really wondered why anyone would take a photos of something so awful. I chose not to display it on my site and I do not encourage behaviour of that nature.

With that image in my mind, I was unsure of what I was going to find at the finals of 'Fashion at the Races' in Adelaide, but to a pleasant surprise there was no ill feeling for any contestant in the room toward another. In fact this was the most friendly bunch of ladies and brave, yet smart group of young gentlemen. Not once did I hear anyone complain about anyone, talk in a negative way about one another or even any gossip what so ever. There were competitors from other states and with positive fantastic attitudes. I was embraced and everyone was excited for the competition and a day of fantastic fashion and food. That is was. It was my anniversary so SAJC and 'Fashion at the races

', generously made space available for my husband. I was tipsy on Champagne that had to be ordered from another bar, but nothing was a problem in Adelaide. The service and event was second to none. My husband and I have had the pleasure of dining Internationally and around Australia at all major race meetings and Adelaide is among the most outstanding day. I would recommend this highly to anyone who loves races or fashion. To speak of fashion, I was astounded to see everyone dressed so immaculately, not only entering the event, but sitting to watch. This rivalled 'Melbourne's Oaks Day Luncheon', which is the much sort after ticket in Melbourne. Adelaide you are outstanding and a class act. YES! The fashion. All competitors in the heats looked so beautiful and stood and presented spectacularly. There may have been some new comers wearing straw or lack of headwear, but they still looked beautiful and not out of place. I was so happy to see a friend through facebook take her love of the races and fashion even further, (Dee) and make her own hat. This is inspiring to me and I cannot speak highly enough of the day. The Finals of the day brought all contestants who had won around South Australia and Brodie Worrel on the day together to be judged for the finals. Usually in most cases of Fashion on the Field, you have to wear exactly the same outfit. With Fashion at the Races, you can change your outfit, which is a great idea if you won in Summer and you have to compete in Autumn. All of the competitors looked amazing and as you can see all of very high calibre with some amazing hats on show. Ladies were all poised and elegant and we never know what the judges see in their eye. What seemed to be coincidence that the winner Jayde Foote won in the very dress that was being paraded. I must admit, the dress was a showstopper and the hat was by Belinda Osborne in Darwin who does amazing feather work. Some of the ladies were disappointed, but who would not be with a shopping spree, business class trip for two up for grabs. One thing was for sure, I was glad I was not on the judging panel, all the competitors were graceful and dignified and did a fantastic job. Again South Australia, you are a star in Australia and a fantastic secret for Racing. The heats have once again started so Click Here to be part of the excitement.
