Ballina Cup 100th Anniversary has just welcomed it's most competitive and well attired ladies to the track yet. Candy Lane and Ballina Jockey Club welcomed me back for another year as I adore the region and 7 years ago when the site was just a plan my husband, brother and myself came to Ballina for a day at the races.
There is something very special about the community spirit where last night Candy Lane (Candy Fitness) hosted a beautiful dinner with prizes to raise money for Hope Have Women’s Refuge. Hope Haven is not funded by the government and helps women in crisis through Domestic Violence and homelessness. Many decided just to donate with an outstanding amount of over $470 with just a table of about 17 ladies. We wish to grow this group of ladies the night before Ballina Cup to raise awareness and talk about how we can help the community. Thank you to all ladies who attended and I am blessed to have bonds with my dear Northern River friends.
Today at Ballina it was a spectacular day, but as the sun went down, so did the chill. I was not a winner with the ponies although I loved judging the fashions on the field with the ever fabulous Angela McCormick, Julie and Nicolas with commentary from the lovely Sarah.
I was not wishing to see Fashion that was on par with Sydney or Melbourne, more to see what Ballina has available in a country town and the grooming and spirit of the day. From last years entrants it is obvious with tempting prizes this competition is growing and I can only hope that the invitation is open even just to visit. Many ladies had a firm grasp on what Racing attire is, although many hemlines were high and a few ties were missing on the gentlemen. I thank all entrants for taking the time and the effort to get dressed up and you are all winners. We had the sashed winners, but in country town brilliance, Ballina Cup decided for every Fashions on the Field entrant they immediately went into the draw for a holiday to Hamilton Island. Many Thanks to Wild Oats. It just so happened the winner of the trip is getting married in 3 weeks and gives some extra time and romance for their honeymoon. I think Candy Land and Ballina Jockey Club have a wonderful concept for more entrants to be happy to get up and have a go with a chance of a trip to a fantastic destination. I would like to also thank the Ramada Riverside in Ballina for the outstanding accommodation and service. Please be reminded that Fashions on the Field is now in it's 52nd year and was founded in Australia at Flemington. This is an Australian tradition and we want to keep the spirit alive. Thank you to everyone in Ballina for you hospitality and welcoming conversations. I am truly blessed.
