Oaks Day has to the pinnacle day of Fashions on the Field, being the final of Fashions on the Field, including State Winner for Victoria over the past few days and then progressing onto the Australian Final of Fashions on the Field which will determine who will be the most fashionably dressed for 2014. It is hotly contested and every lady steps onto stage wishing to be a part of Fashion History in Australia.

As Oaks Day falls on a Thursday in Australia there seemed to be less contestants, yet still the determination to make it through. Stacy Kidner won the Oaks Day heat in gorgeous 'Wild Orchid' colour headpiece and print dress. This was the only print dress to make the final during Melbourne Cup Carnival and I could not be happier. Stacy had been there just about everyday and her styling was perfection. The runners up had just as much freshness and chic Oaks Day elegance that you expect from the day. This was a year where I was again blessed to converse with judges prior to the competition and see what they were wanting. It was streamline, simple and elegant. There was to be no fuss and distraction. Allot of competitors had allot going on, although looking fantastic, it was a minimalist look with attention to accessories complimenting the attire.

From this point forward, be careful of print as careful blocking is coming back this season taking us into Magic Millions, Mid Summer Carnival and Stacy yet another Far North Queenslander came to scoop the pool of the day.

Her statuesque pose and attention to detail will has been noticed and will be a contender for future Fashions on the Field. I am excited to say, that Stacy has been in contact with her eyes on Melbourne titles. I welcome interstate entrants, as we all want to compete with the best.

I was overwhelmed with the level of well dressed ladies and not only in the Fashions on the Field competition but in general around the enclosure. I must say that you have all put the celebrities to shame, and you have out styled the stylists. Be proud ladies, you are all photographed and fabulous. I adore you all.

This is where I get a bit emotional, because several years ago there was not as big a crowd in Fashions on the Field, it was a big competition although not as nearly as popular as today. When I last went in Fashions on the Field at Flemington as a serious competitor, the stage was not nearly as well seen and on lookers were welcomed, but not given fantastic viewing point.

The only people who were photographer were celebrities and I remember meeting Carson Cresley backstage. I am not saying it was not competitive, but a photographer said, “Can you group in for a photo with Carson”, (backstage) and I was swamped by women climbing over each other to be in the image. This needed immediate attention. Mind you, I had just been stitched up from a C-Section with my first child, so I just stood back. I had fun though and that is what it is, fun.

Fashions on the Field is now heading to the United Kingdom where they will be hoping to send the winner to Australia to compete with us. This will make our humble Aussie tradition a big international hit, although I am not sure how the aristocracy in United Kingdom will see our Australian tradition. We hope all the English will love our Fashion Craze and will embrace it. If they don't, well, we don't mind. The point is to always feel fabulous in your own skin and have a go. Be Fabulous Ladies and Stay Fabulous, because you are now all International Icons for Australia.
