Blue Diamond is always a time for young ladies to get excited in Melbourne about another chance to showcase their fashion for the last of the Summer Season.
Relaxed Racing is the theme for Blue Diamond and I am still unsure about it, but somehow it seemed to work. I am not going to say I love it, because there is a lack of couture and showcase of innovation, but the headwear/hats were brimming beautifully and ladies were holding themselves elegantly. May I state, THE BRIM IS BACK!!!
The latest advertising campaign of 'Relaxed Racing' does seem to give the point of view, that just roll up and put out a picnic blanket and enjoy the day. There was room for that and in fact every race day you have the ability to put down a blanket and have a fun family day on the lawn.
I was pleased to see that entrants kept their standards high and did not choose to wear playsuits and shorts. Relaxed Racing does not mean nightclub no matter what anyone says.
The couples section was beautiful with everyone from good friends, Mums and Sons, Dads and Daughters, as it continues we loved watching. Probably two of my favourite and most seasoned competitors took the title of 'Best Dressed', being Michael McAlpine and Lisa Wellings in “Spot On” Polka dots, this was a winning team from the moment they stepped on stage.
The gentlemen’s round is becoming more competitive than ever and George with his nonchalant bag over his shoulder took the title. This was a perfect 'relaxed racing' look without looking too teamed up.
The ladies style stakes continued and there is still some confusion about what 'Relaxed Racing' is, I don't blame you. I became so excited, I sported a 'My Little Pony' in my hat, just watch this space, as I would not be surprised if 'Lady GaGa, sports this look soon' TAKE NOTE!!!
I was really pleased to see some ladies taking the time to say, I prefer to dress in a manner that would not be considered 'Relaxed Racing' and they did not look out of place, they looked immaculate and elegant.
In saying, it was about an ease and 'relaxed' day. I had a feeling Em Scodellaro had the title taken out when I first saw her at the track. I had a word to her and she was divine and glowing with an attitude of welcoming friendliness to all. It was a black culotte/dress that looked easy, wearable and comfortable sported with a jockey cap. Racing Fashion loved that look almost as much as 'My Little Pony'. Amanda Macor came runner up with a bevy of prizes to add to her luggage back to Cairns. Amanda wore a ankle length print dress with high neckline and apricot straw hat she had made herself. There were lots of looking around at who did make the finals and who did not, but I can most pleasantly say no one was negative or sullen on the day. Everyone was there to enjoy fashion and take part.
Jacinta Cambpell soon to be Franklin looked totally amazing. She was wearing felt in Summer but I will forgive her as her neighbour made the hat and it looked amazing on her with a 'By Johnny' jump suit. Yes, Jump suit, not Play suit.
Thank you for everyone who took part in the day, it was a pleasure and fun to film.
We are mindful that Blue Diamond was the year that marked the Death of Charlotte Dawson and lost her battle with Cyber Bullies. To her family and friends, we will never forget this beautiful vivacious woman who always put a smile on others faces.
