Caulfield Cup did not disappoint with the beginning of the Spring Racing Carnival a hit. Everyone looked amazing and now the track is the go to place for well dressed ladies and gentlemen enjoying fashion. Melbourne really put on a fantastic show with the weather perfect for racing conditions as well as for the Fashions on the Field competitors.
Every competitor looked spectacular and I enjoyed entering Fashions on the Field in the 40+ section, just to keep a hand in on what the ladies are doing and feeling backstage. I am really proud to hop on stage with the other ladies and it is not about winning it is about the enjoyment of dressing well and enjoying what you love, Fashion and Hats.
The competition has grown so much in the years I have been covering it and every year becomes stronger and stronger. There were so many variations at Chadstone Fashion Stakes and there was nothing that you could see that the judges were consistently looking for. I loved that Jenny Beard won the 40+ section and really is the epitome of what an Elegant Lady looks like at the races. I could not fault the judges for this decision as I found her look sheer brilliance from head to toe.
In the younger category, the ladies all looked spectacular and many were left shaking their heads as what did not final, but there were so many beautifully attired ladies. There were so many different silhouettes and hats of all varieties. I think more than ever, every shape and size are being seen and not discriminated against. I did find the winners look somewhat simplistic yet Chadstone Fashion Stakes always somehow seems unpredictable.
The most coveted 'Royal Ascot' holiday is no longer on offer, the prize is now a trip to Hong Kong, which is still fabulous, but it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend Royal Ascot. It is great to have Australia's finest attend the amazing race meeting, but I guess if you love it like me you have to do it off your own bat.
All aside, I had a wonderful day. The dining in Black Caviar restaurant was under the pump with the food just not hitting the mark as it did the week before on Caulfield Guineas Day. I would like to extend a big thank you to the Pegasus Marquee for including my team of Racing Fashion TV presenters to see what the young and young at heart were up to. A great day was had by all and cannot wait to step out for Headquarters Racing at Flemington coming shortly.
