Melbourne is the fashion capital of Australia is most definitely Melbourne. Now living in Far North Queensland I understand anything further than Canberra really has a huge humidity factor that you cannot dress in seasonal trend. The perfect example for Melbourne fashion is you have to be so fashion savvy, you have to have a summer outfit ready to change to winter in a minute notice.
I was so generously offered a wonderful ticket to the brilliant event of the Sonnington Runway Hall of Fame. There were all the fabulous designers who I adore and love to encourage Australian talent and to purchase Australian made and designed products. Sarah Kempson generously passed on the photos so I did not miss a minute of the Melbourne Madness that is MMFF 2011. The stage was graced with the beautiful Janice Breen Burns giving a forecast for the trends ahead. Janice is not only a brilliant writer but a lady in the fashion industry who really knows fashion, I greatly admire her.
Contributing designers were Dhini, Alpha60, Alannah Hill, Gorman, Lisa Ho, Connie Simonetti, Craig Braybrook Hemden, Stevie, From Luka, John Cavill, Leona Edmiston, Lisa Barron, Mathieu Salem, Medwin, Soho Workshop, T.L. Wood and Tiffany Treloar. Shoes, Millinery and Accessories were by Steve Madden, Alan Pinkus, Nude, Nine West, Kerrie Stanley, Peter Jago, Paris Kyne, Spencer & Rutherford, Mimco, IMP jewellery, Catanach jewellery, Oroton and Novo. All of our favourites.
The Fashion Hall of Fame, now enjoying its tenth year, will welcome two new inductees – journalist Janice Breen Burns and couturier Victoria Cascajo – to its illustrious ranks. In 2011, the Hall of Fame ceremony will also showcase historic vintage fashion on stage alongside the hand-picked emerging design talent of Lui Hon, Pink Stitch, Kings of Carnaby and RMIT fashion alumni Livia Arena.
