Fashions on the Field each year are distinctively different in the way we match our Fashion, Shoes and Hats. This year we will be taking a leaf or channelling every part of Duchess Katherine. 2014 has shown that VRC/Fleminton is not for clashing trendy fashion fads with distinct style. There will be no mid riff at all for anyone attending in the members and Birdcage enclosure. (General admission is acceptable)
Racing Fashion TOP TIP, be your own princess or gatsby.
Walk like you are the clothes you are walking in, the judges want more confidence and elegance.
VRC/Flemington is high brow and you are mixing with some of the most established names in Racing, Social ranking and being loud and bold this year will not be tolerated. Myself, I love to have a sense of drama and theatrics to my ensemble, yet I am steering far away from trends that may offend a club that has been around for over 120 years.
The look is going to be sleek, and well groomed. We say this every year, but more than ever the stakes are higher. If you want to be photographed for the right reasons, you will be making sure that your waist is highlighted and you are well fitted. No Midriff as it will be deemed unfit for Fashions on the Field. It is a trend and many have already filled in the tummy tuck as one of the finalists has done with her Maticevski dress. Dresses are longer and tea length, so you can show a little more around the neckline to balance.
Headwear and Hats, exactly, (Kerrie Stanley, Milliner to the Celebs) did add at the launch of Fashions on the Field at Melbourne Cup Carnival this year that “Fascinator is a dirty word.”. If you are entering Fashions on the Field, your headwear has to be classic and stylish, keep it the feature of the outfit without over powering the dress. It is a tricky balance.
The shoes are all about the thinner heel and pump. Stash all your platforms for hammering in tent pegs. They are the easiest way to see if someone is in the know with the latest fashion.
Lace will be a feature in headwear, but be careful not to have the look drown in lace where you may look like a bridesmaid.
Don't test your limit with fashion this year, it is about standing out for all the right reasons. Take inspiration from all the art that Melbourne has to offer and the palette is surrounded by blue. Cobalt Blue a favourite tip for colour. 2014 will be telling you 'NO NO' to the bold colours, if you block, keep it classy in jewel tones or neutrals. NO NO NO NEON!!!!!!
Myer Fashions on the Field this year is not mucking around they are wanting to see the finest fashion, and not generally for allot of money. Texture is a big hit and embracing recycling if possible. Most of all it is about 'RESPECT'.
If you want to enter Fashions on the Field for a dare, or to be silly, you will not be welcomed. This is taken seriously by so many people and getting up after a few beers is insulting to judges, sponsors and other competitors. Never take alcohol on stage and no wearing comical items on stage to get attention from your mates. It will not be tolerated.
Royal Ascot has made strict guidelines for dressing at their track and VRC/Flemington does want to have the reputation of having the most fashionable and stylish attendees to their track.
Fashions on the Field TIPs.
Baby wipes for your shoes, get the mud off the heels.
Gloss in your clutch, bottom of centre lip for hitting the light.
Fake eyelash glue in bag
A dry cleaning bag for your hat. If you are caught in the rain, this is the easiest way to keep your hat dry and in good condition. Rain is the enemy of any hat.
