Nothing I love more is having a good reason to Frock Up and feel fabulous and the ladies at the Gold Coast never disappoint me.
No matter what age, size or shape they come looking beautifully groomed, attired wearing what one should say their Sunday Best. With the larger gathering on Monday with the Women In Racing luncheon that attracted an intimate yet larger number of diners, the intimate group of ladies had time to catch up with one another and really enjoy a lovely morning tea that was regal, elegant and traditional with Racing.
I have grown with so many of these ladies and I am so pleased that Jennifer Bartels and Baslyn Beel have reached their 10th year, not just hosting luncheons and the like, but raising money for Griffith University and giving us a reason to give back to the community.
Although the numbers were under 100, the intimate secluded part of Marina Mirage really did have an air or distinction that I would have to say was the most refined event of the Magic Millions. It was tasteful and the parade was not racewear like we always see, yet a brand 'Holiday' which showed us what was great to wear in our off time and relax in. Cool, comfortable, yet very stylish.
To Women in Racing, I am always grateful for you hospitality to me and not only the hosts, but the ladies who I have made very good friendships with over the years. We have spoken about our children and families and just things we love and what we are grateful for.
A big thank you to Alan Thomas race caller that made a special speech and was an 'Old Scotch Boy' which I did not know. His communication in calling and knowledge of horses and what he has shared with the racing public we are most grateful for. I must admit personally, it has never been the same since you and Larry were split apart. There was always the Saturday morning show where my husband and I would wake up to and watch two of our favorite people in racing banter and laugh. You will be missed Alan, as in Larry, two really fantastic blokes in racing.
Thank you again ladies for your company, same time next year. I loved it.
