2016 is warming up with Emirate Stakes Day from Spring Racing Carnival not complete with Fashion Follies to be planning their Magic Millions wardrobe for the Gold Coast Show Down. This is the hottest Fashions on the field ticket with undoubtedly the most fun. What we see at the beginning of 2016 seems to predict the year and colours and it is all of Queensland's most fashionable ladies at the luncheons, high teas and fashion/hat orientated events. Who would think they are selling Millions of Dollars worth of livestock opposite the track where a handy little horse Danzylum was purchased. Our loved Magic Millions boy may have broken his leg, but we have kept him as a live lawn mower to live his days happily munching on grass.
For sure we are bound to see lace, lace and lace with the 'Self Portrait' Phenomenon taking centre stage and really why would Myer not want to see some of it's favourties given a high notoriety tick of approval by the public. It is an affordable brand which will pair beautifully with for Summer 2016. Remember the Racing Fashion Golden Rule is to basically mark down how many times you wear an outfit as opposed to the garment that may be a few hundred or hundred and just does not get worn. You purchase a $500 dress you live in all Summer it is a great buy.
This year at Spring Racing Carnival, there were some mishaps with Lace where it did age some ladies or the wrong lace and shape on a more mature lady was wrong for her age. You really have to weigh your strength of your body and look at your shape. Don't choose because of fashion, make a choice that is right for you.
Top trend for 2016 is the staggered hemline as seen particularly in Stella McCartney and staggered necklines that Roland Mouret is famous for. Besides the Summer staple of Lace, I know it sounds strange, but a wool blend dress can sometimes be just as cool in the Summer Sun as light and airy and in fact this is where you have to pick your fabric carefully, as Wool will keep the heat out and keep you cooler than you may have thought. Last year Lauren Walker won in the Neroprene Dress which is not a Summer Fabric, but the colours and lines were great for 2015. Neroprene is not the fabric to be looking for this season, but look for the way the garment flows. The way you walk and the way the fabric sits is paramount.
I am not saying that all the judges know what are the key trends and what fabric is opted over another, but I look for longevity in my garments that shall become my daughters vintage wardrobe. I know in 20 years time, I know I have made investments with fabric that will not date and the structure of the garment is well made, zips and seams. After having 2 children and ladies who are the right side of fabulous (over 40) like myself, we need non flimsy clasps and clips. This is where a couturier will come in handy. I always recommend Bernadette Pimenta who I rely on to highlight my greatest assets and shun the parts that are not in fashion, as body parts come and go in fashion. One hint, the waist is always a hit. Make sure that you hemlines are longer and we may even see the start of ankle length dresses. Boho can be seen including a Kaftan during Magic Millions Summer Carnival, it is not Melbourne or Sydney, Magic Millions Mid Summer Carnival has it's own identity.
