One thing comes to mind when attending one of my loves, ‘Country Racing’. ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, the heat and humidity was overwhelming. I was in pure survival mode with a Doctor coming to my home the night before for my baby with the whole family with bad colds, and even worse as every woman knows, my husband had ‘The Man Cold’. (We were lucky he is still with us, any married woman will tell you, the man cold is worse than any cold a woman will ever have.)
I could not miss out on this fantastic fashion event which in some cases far surpassed the Melbourne or City scene Race Meets. The quality of everyone was particularly high. As usual there were hits and misses, but I will let you make up your own mind. Some of mine with no sleep and a head packed with Codral and Champagne did become vocal as I had to explain who ‘Stephen Jones’ was with ‘Racing Fashion 101’ tried to be packed into 2 minutes to a couple of judges. They had their own opinions, and is that not is what is fabulous about our country is we can have a great debate and then, ‘Julia’, “We Move Forward.”
My dear friend Felicity Northeast, a well know milliner and one of our favourites was debating and had strong opinions for the millinery award to her avail. With her fav, finalling. I was not so fortunate to have all of my people make it through to the final or even make the final cut, I was desperately trying to make my opinion heard on the panel, but unfortunately I don’t think 3 of the judges could hear a thing I was saying, in fact I don’t think they knew I was there as when I said goodbye, they just looked at me like a stranger without a departing word. I must have morphed during judging.
One thing makes me more determined is to become more accredited, as when I sit on the Panel with milliners and designers, I not only have the ability to learn as they are masters of their trade, they know the construction of the garment and lines of millinery. I will be undertaking crash courses of millinery with Louise McDonald to make sure I can judge even more constructively.
Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for such an exciting day. I loved every minute of it. The races is about looking and feeling fabulous and with Kerrie Stanley as an MC she woke everyone up. Kerrie you were your fabulous self, I thank everyone who stepped onto that stage on Mornington Cup day. You were all marvelous and never be disheartened because you are the stars of the show, yes YOU! Watch out for the up coming season 2 of Racing Fashion TV.
