The best thing about Magic Millions at the Gold Coast Turf Club is that it is a Mid Summer Carnival with an entity of its own. Not only have I been drown in gorgeous fashion all week with the promise of fantastic events to come, but it has been the friendliest carnival I can remember attending in a long time.
As always there are discrepancies with the finalists and winners especially in the mens division, but we are trying to evolve Racing Fashion into the most fashion forward group of ladies and gentlemen in the country.
No one could take away the amazing win from Angela Menz in Spring, she truly epitomises what it is to be totally ahead of the pack in Fashions on the Field, and a great competitor as well. Angela when not even finaling, sits to watch all the contestants parade their winning outfit. This is what makes our sport of clothes so brilliant. Allot of people could take a leaf out of Angela's book as she is the veteran competitor of a very tender age that shows that she has been brought up with sportsmanship and great values in life. (What wonderful proud parents you have Angela and rightly so) Angela, you are someone we all admire, and if they don't they are just jealous.
This mid Summer Carnival I have seen the same qualities in many of the Queensland competitors, with none of the hustle bustle of the main Carnival's of Spring and Autumn in well; lets say fashion Headquarters of Australia, the Gold Coast stays in tune with what is happening and develops their own unique style.
When talking to Richard Nylon, he said he was ready to see the stereo typical Gold Coaster on stage with Glitter pouring from every angle, but he was most impressively shocked. The great Southerner, exclaimed how this meeting has transformed racing fashion from a mere add on after Spring Racing Carnival into an identity of its own. We did see one idea of colour blocking that would have been a huge no no, but was done so well with aqua, you could not help but take notice. The aqua just lifted the outfit giving a hint of freshness, without the ghastly 80s interpretations that I myself took on during Spring only to be laughing a season later not 30 years later. Hey we had great fun with it and retailers grabbed our attention and ran with it.
Amy Robson you were the gracious winner of the day and congratulations to you. I honestly believe this is what the values of Fashions on the Field are. Two sisters competing in an outfit their Grandma, (Sandra Robson) made and then stand side by side each other as they announced the winner. I saw Amy get more any more excited with every prize announced. Everyone was happy for her and Sandra was beside herself. What a feel good story, with two beautiful sisters on their way to Paris with 5 star accommodation. Very well deserved. Amy you really did show us your incredibly mature sports minded way when coming runner up on Oaks day in a very similar design. It all comes down to personal taste of the judges, but it was your carnival in your State. Well done.
