Primped and Preened to Perfection, the three 'P's of the day with the Fashions on the Field, 18 – 40 ladies category. Gorgeous young ladies paraded beautifully in the heat showing maturity beyond their years. They all looked fantastic and their grooming was impeccable. Ladies, you should be giving yourselves a huge pat on the back. The heat was atrocious, and you all kept your cool beautifully.
The competition was at an all time high, with contestants looking like they have just stepped out for a wedding. Head to toe immaculate grooming is always the one styling tip that is a necessity in Fashions on the Field and some ladies were not playing, they were there to win, (the competition although competitive seemed to welcome all and ladies did not seem to have attitude, Great to see) and good on them. They know the competition, they know the rules and they have been studying their Fashions on the Field 101 very hard. Everyone was looking confident and happy and the judges had a hard task on their hands. I must say even ladies who a beginning in the competitive fashion sport are now taking their time and enjoying every minute on the stage. This is to be embraced and worked on and see in some cases why you were not making the finals. Sometimes it was just the judges discretion as seeing an outfit being more appropriate for the day. It was very hard in some heats to pick the finalists but one thing being such a hot day, we were looking for weather appropriate. I chose in the winning couple, no gloves on, as it was just too hot, and the colours had to be cool and breezy. Thinking of Racing by the Sea, we did love the nautical theme of Red, White and Blue, but with your tones make sure they are hitting the right light with collars, hats, trims etc.
All in all, I would not normally look for a shorter dress, but the lady who came 1st runner up, had the legs, it was age appropriate on such a young girl and hot day and was well balanced with the top. Here Richard Nylon Headwear was perfect for the day, as in the sun, the gold on the end of the feathers was catching the sun beautifully and complimented the day of Summer Racing by the sea. The winner Melissa Buchanan epitomised the day perfectly. Her skirt of black with bursting roses continued to her Danica Erard millinery which sheltered her face from the sun. The break of colour in the top really kept it fresh, young and appropriate for the day. We all wanted to be that girl winning on the day, Melissa really did look that gorgeous and her deportment on stage was perfection. I would like to also welcome to the circuit of Fashions on the Field a few faces I have not seen in a while and I am so happy to see you competing again. For the new ladies, keep in their and watch what the winners do. Look at their hats, shoes, and the styling of garments that make the finals. Practice makes perfect!
