Super Saturday is always a promise of great fun and the beginning of a wonderful Autumn Carnival to come in Sydney. I was especially excited when I was pulled aside from Channel 7 for a shot of my wonderful Danica Erard Millinery, “Blue Bird”. There are not allot of times I am in front of the camera, as I am usually that person behind the camera. But all of my friends know, being a Leo, the lovable show off loves to showcase a fantastic outfit with a fabulous hat. Now back to every one else!
I don't think I saw a single faux pas on stage, showing that fashions on the field is now declared a fashion sport, which the beautiful 'Mildred Elwood' described the competition in her 'thank you speech'. Everyone on stage was looking splendid and everyone did have their own interpretation of Autumn Style. This was wonderful to see. No clones of one after the other looking the same. The cute as a peach, Cue dress was a hit and was worn in 3 different ways by 3 different contestants and no one seemed to mind. Everyone wore it in their own way.
Super Saturday has grown especially in the last 5 years where it was a couples competition and now one of the most coveted Autumn sashes. From an outdoor event, to now a huge marquee similar to the fashions stage from Melbourne Cup Carnival, I think a huge applause needs to go to the wonderful Minc PR girls, Katie Flockhart and Bridget Tomkins for making 'Myer Fashions on the Field' the competition it is today.
Oh, yes, back to the fashion. More attention to couture millinery has been taken, with hardly any millinery that has been blocked in China as a second thought to the dress. The millinery is just as much a part of the outfit as the dress. You don't get the millinery right, the outfit will quickly be cheapened. A big congratulations to Aimee La Rocca in a splendid Raspberry colour taking 2nd Runner up and Bianca Barnes cutting a strong equestrian turnout line with her showing efforts in the horse showing ring showing in the 'Fashions' line up. Loving her gloves with a 'bit' embellishment on them. Oh, so Gucci.
A huge Congratulations to Mildred Elwood taking out tickets to Dubai as well as the luxury of driving around a brand new Lexus for a year. Mildred explained how during her travels of occupational health and safety she stopped in her overalls at a truck stop seeing a lady sewing some cushions in some fabulous fabric. After a conversation, Mildred snapped up the fabric and had a show stopping couture outfit. Money well spend on clothes, not cushions.
Mildred's millinery was right on trend with Karen Valentine's leather collection of a brown bloom with feather feature. Dale Olsson from 'The Hat Box', you and Mildred had it right on trend, and may I wish both you and Mildred a wonderful time in Dubai. Mildred and Dale are heading off on tour with the charity organisation Women in Racing Inc, entering 'Fashions on the Field' in Dubai, lunching with Royalty and checking the Sultan's Stables. Have a wonderful trip ladies, and yes, we do want photos. x
