Fashions on the Field at Caulfield Guineas day gives a great preview of what Spring and what the Aussie fashions are going to be. There was a Stella line up with stunning outfits and colour everywhere. This year as I was chatting to one of my finest mentors Janice Breen-Burns, we have really not seen any definitive trends in years which one could follow. I thought we would see more pops of Neon, but stylist Kate Bollard did not let me down wearing the fabulous Neon Pops in all the right places. No road worker there. My rounds of judging were incredibly difficult and all were looking spectacular. In fact I will let you know only one of my pics made it through. So if you have any discrepancies, blame the judges and all 4 of us. It was a great mix of judges with myself, the beautiful Bree Laughlin, Kate Bollard and a guest winning judge who was a pleasure to meet. This is difficult, I must admit, I am stuck in being a oldie category with thinking of stockings and old fashioned ways I was brought up, but then we had 3 younger members of the panel that had a different take on fashion. This is what fashion is about, it is not about all liking the same thing. It is about looking at such beautiful women all embracing their womanhood and presenting beautifully. This is fashions on the field and it is no more and no less. There is only 1 winner, and let us embrace them. The men a saw from a distance and there were 'moves like jagger' being pranced on stage, which may have been an on going feature if not stopped. Remember gentlemen, we embrace you to have your time, but this is a serious competition and have your time on stage and then graciously exit where the next contestant has time. There will be more social pictures to come, but can I just say everyone at this competition held themselves with ladylike dignity and poise and Caulfield is definitely one of the most hugely contested competitions in Australia. I am looking forward to seeing everyone next week and remember, don't just think 'Racing Fashion' is just for 'Fashions on the Field' it is for every race day, so head to the track feeling fabulous and get frocked up with a hat. There are races every day of the year and pretty much every week in Melbourne. A great excuse to feel fabulous every week. Congratulations to the winners.
