Caulfield Cup Carnival is always an exciting start to Spring Racing Carnival with the fashion kicking off and showing us a hint of what we are going to see at Melbourne Cup Carnival. Some see this as a silly parade, but not us, there are $120,000 worth of prizes on offer and this is not just a parade with hats, this is die hard competition. Caulfield Cup has changed around the judging and is giving an overall approach to how they perceive Fashion at the Races. The judges were brimming at a full level from winners of competitions to handbag makers, to renown figures in the racing industry and bloggers and journalists alike. This is giving a much broader horizon of what we are seeing and saying “What is fashion on the Australian Racecourse?” Everyone was undoubtedly looking for colour for the beginning of the season and there were fabulous frocks and the competition is fiercer than ever, in saying that, I did not hear a negative word from any competitors lips about another and everyone was embracing the opportunity to showcase their fantastic outfit and headwear. When I am given the opportunity to judge I do look at the overall picture and ease of the entrant, but I do look for well fitting garments made with material that wear well. I like to think people get more than one wear out of a garment. Overall the standard of fashion and lady like elegance took an all time high this Caulfield Cup Carnival with only a few mishaps. Watch wear your splits end and I love to see smiles. Everyone looked tremendous and a big Congratulations to Melissa Buchananan, she wowed the judges in her 'Glampire' inspired black lace and cerise and Danica Erard Millinery. We cannot wait to see what happens at Melbourne Cup Carnival with the colour and excitement already started.
