Fashions on the Field in Sydney at Royal Randwick Derby seemed to more all hale the Great Black Mare, Black Caviar and why not an undefeated champion taking her place in history 25/25. She is an undoubted champion and such a brilliant Sprinter.
Fashions on the Field were just a handful, but looking at the shots the quality of competitor was high. The competition does seem to be transforming itself in Sydney and I am not sure if it is for the better, we can all have an opinion about it.
I feel that it does take away from the slip in competitor that just wants to feel fantastic, there is more scrutiny over the individual for a second while on a platform and then a final 5 will be picked. Then it is left up for the public with the likes of social media coming in and you have to be voted for by the public for 2 or so hours.
In some ways, this is a great competition for the public to have a view, but in some cases I do think it is a fact of who has the most facebook friends.
I was asked to vote, so I did. It seems that some of the regular 'fashions on the field' entrants have not been getting a look into the final. We all want to know what the judges are looking for, but really we can never really know as every one is different.
Times are tough and Black Caviar has been triumphant in not only her victories but bringing people to the races that would not have attended. In saying about times being tough, this new system for 'Fashions on the Field' to be transformed into an online competition allot of pressure of costs have been significantly decreased as there are still judges but smaller scale allows the club to save heaps on the event. I am just wondering where this event will lead, I could easily say that I doubt that Flemington would take away this event away from the people.
It has been a great part of Melbourne's Racing History for the past 50 years and we would hate to see it go. There are introductions to the 'People's Choice, Myer Fashions on the Field' via social media, which I think it is fantastic for people who maybe in different states to take part.
Remember being fashionable at Races is not about competition it is about embracing your fashionable self and dressing yourself up for the Races and Sunday's Best.
