There is nothing more fashionable at the races than to go and look and feel fabulous when Fashions on the Field are not even going on that day. This really sets the ladies that know their Fashion and Hats well than competitors.
These days I love as I go back to when I started, just chatting to the ladies on course and hearing their stories. Musing about their outfits and often are the ladies that usually don't enter Fashions on the Field. The races attracts more fashion than simply on stage. There are many ladies that would not even know anything about Fashions on the Field, but just love the races and having a lovely lunch with their husband and or friends.
Often when I judge 'Fashions on the Field', Caulfield Cup Carnival and Melbourne Cup Carnvial are about the most well attired well put together fashionable lady of the day; but when at rural meetings I look at the whole picture.
The rural meetings interstate do not attract the die hard Fashions on the Field ladies. That is mainly the big Melbourne Carnival and in bits Rural Victoria.
I try to look for the well rounded dressed lady. Fashionable, yet not following trends to the second. They could be at any part of the course. They could be in a restaurant dining with friends, they could have a runner on the day and have just come from the mounting yard, part of syndications or just put a bet on. Again I have to see an air of ease about their outfit, that the outfit is not drowning them.
At these luncheons, I see allot of the ladies who are not Fashions on the Field ladies but are finely dressed, with impeccable grooming and stature. I watch these ladies and that is what they are, ladies. They have fun, they drink bubbles and enjoy. Some I do see occasionally in Fashions on the field and have been doing it for years, but not at every meeting.
So refreshing to get back to the basics of my site and just enjoy snapping ladies enjoying a day at the races.
Don't think I don't love all you fashion ladies as you are the ones evolving fashion. Right now Racing Season is one of the biggest fashion markets and everyone is onto it. I have many designers and accessory designers emailing me daily with look books, shoes, accessories and hats. Many outlets know now that Fashions on the Field and the Designer Award at Melbourne Cup Carnival can begin the trends that forge the year ahead. Look at the peplum and Amy Robsons hip covers. You Go GIRLS!!!!! x
