Derby Day now seems just a memory with the day of classic black and white been taken over of later days with colour and frenzy of fashion.
For most when they think my life of Racing Fashion TV, photos and interviews is somewhat easy, but with the wonderful Paris Kyne trailing last year he did let allot of people that the job was not as easy as he thought.
In saying that, I was blessed to shoot backstage and share stories with contestants and inspirations of outfits. Familiar faces and new ones as well. Thank you to Flemington/VRC and Minc for this honour.
It must be daunting coming in for the first time Fashions on the Field at Melbourne Cup Carnival and being swamped by all these women who know each other, but there are allot of ladies and you are bound to meet someone with the same interest. Well Fashion and Hats for starters.
The Black and White of the day is classic and I say it is my favourite day, but then I want to embrace the colour.
Hats are forever changing, and I was speaking to Carole from 'The Hat' Magazine and there are a allot of home made hats on stage. In some ways you are lucky as in the preliminary rounds of Fashions on the Field there are no milliners usually on to really know hats.
There were allot of nice hats, but there were few that were outstanding.
There are so many different material being used for hats and additions for Fashions on the Field, you have to be careful although I love the theatrical feel, it can is some ways look too home made or trying too hard to stand out.
As always standing out on Derby Day in Fashions on the Field is difficult, but I chose a 'Duchess Silk' with red through and a few hues of red through the black for drama. It is a hard day to predict, but when wearing off the rack even if you have paid a fortune, there may be many wearing the same as other contestants. That is when your Millinery has to be outstanding.
Fantastic Derby Day for everyone. My team was very patient with me as we were all learning on the day with each other. Great Group 1 racing and kept my new co-host Stephen my husband happy. You will see the wonderful 'Hard Luck Motty' in full form for Racing Fashion TV next Season. There are so many more photos to come, so please be patient. I am getting to them in between being mum to the 3 and 5 year old. Hugs to all and remember “Derby Day is about being Black and White and Fabulous all over”, Anna Mott, Racing Fashion.
