Melbourne Cup Day is the premier day to showcase colour and your most outrageous and theatrical Millinery. Of course, I could not disappoint and many young ladies were commenting “OMG, Anna Mott has like a huge Neon Fish on Her Head”.
To some “Yes, I did”, but I was fortunate enough to know the story of the hat. It was a piece of Indigenous Art that had been printed onto a Millinery textile by Waltraud Reiner after spending time in NT with the women of Arnhem Land.
Melbourne Cup Day was also the Day that Chloe Moo was presented as Winner of Fashions on the Field in an Indigenous Print Design as well. I will admit when I had the chance to interview, CEO of Myer Bernie Brooks, I was asking about where he sees the art on Indigenous and being incorporated into mainstream Department Store Retail? “Well, you will have to watch 'Racing Fashion TV' for that one”.
This is the future and when we learn to embrace the beauty of our country and the raw beauty and be taught from a culture that has spent over 10,000 years where we have walked, all I can say is 'Respect'.
Fashions on the Field was at an all time high with ladies strutting their stuff like no other. It is really the Greatest Day to Enter Fashions on the Field, which is the largest outdoor Fashion event in the world. With over $400,000 worth of prizes, who is going to argue.
Fashions on the Field to me as you know is about showcasing the person you are and what you represent through fashion, but I am open to the fierce competitors that want nothing to get in their way. That is what makes them happy and they still look fabulous and that is what makes Competition.
I must admit, Myer Fashions on the Field, has to have a preliminary judge to know Millinery WELL. So many ladies I would see ushered off the stage not to partake in the next heat and I wanted to do a 'Jeff Banks' and say, “She is through!”.
I am not putting up my hand as a judge, but we really need someone who knows textiles and stitching of hats as well as knowing what is off the rack and couture.
I must admit, as you know, I cannot keep my mouth shut and I have told the organisers about this and said “yes, yes Anna.” Lol.
I think they just try to shut me up, I would too.
I believe Chole Moo was the best on the day and 'Best of Fashions on the Field', a worthy winner, EXCEPT, if I was in the competition. No Only Kidding. I love watching and seeing all the ladies love and enjoy their couture and Millinery as I do. That is what it is all about. We are going to have heaps more photos on the way, but here are some of my happy snaps. That Monsoon Millinery worn by Chloe Moo will be a very busy Milliner next year I dare say. Love all of your outfits. So many Rosette's, so many fabulous outfits and competitors. Anna. (Racing Fashion) x
